Museum Interest Survey

The VIP Club is considering the possibility of organizing a day trip to a Minnesota museum or a historic site outside the metro area. The last three years, we’ve organized an August river cruise; this year we’d like to try the highways, i.e. a bus ride.   Our plan would be to hire a Northfield Lines Bus.  This is a 56-passenger motor coach featuring large panoramic windows, large multiple video monitors, a DVD system and AM/FM stereo with CD player. The bus seats are comfortable cloth reclining seats with leather headrests and footrests, personal reading lights, and a spacious restroom in the rear of the bus. For those of us with walkers or wheelchairs there is plenty of space in the luggage compartment and the bus kneels to bring the steps down low making it easier to enter and exit for those of us with mobility issues.
The excursion cost, not including the lunch stop, would normally be $25 or less per person.  This activity coordinator is Director Gish Devlaminck with support from the board.

Venue Options:

  • Fagen Fighters Museum - Granite Falls, from Eagan estimate total tour time is nine hours. Could also include a stop at the Volstead House, also in Granite Falls [They have a rebuilt WWII glider that came out of St. Paul's factory on Minnehaha Avenue. ERA began in that factory in 1946.]
  • Glensheen Mansion - Duluth, from Eagan estimated total tour time from Eagan is ten hours. [Beautiful gardens and views of Lake Superior too.]
  • Hinckley Fire Museum - Hinckley, from Eagan estimated total tour time is eight hours. [?lunch at the casino?]
  • Spam Museum - Austin, from Eagan, estimated total tour time is eight hours.

Agenda for excursion:

  1. 8:00 AM – 8:15 AM Check in at the UNISYS Eagan parking lot, North side.
  2. 8:15 AM – 8:30 AM board the bus, a bottle of water will be available for personal hydration during the ride.
  3. 8:30 AM: Depart for the destination, honk & wave at late arrivals? :-)   [If the destination is North of the Twin Cities, an optional pickup in the Roseville area will be planned.]
  4. Ride time, lunch stop, tour the museum, etc.  Times will vary somewhat based on the destination, lunch place, and photo op stop points.
  5. 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM arrive back at the parking lot  [remember to take camera and personal belongs off the bus.] :-)
